Robinson Plc

Group Profile

Robinson was established over 150 years ago, operates in the plastics and paperboard packaging industry and has a significant property portfolio in the Chesterfield area where its headquarters are located. It joined the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) in 2004.

The Group consists of five key businesses (further details of which can be found on their individual websites) and a property division.

Robinson Plastic Packaging (Kirkby, UK)

The plastics division is primarily focused in the food sector with a blue chip customer base and strong reputation for quality. It concentrates on custom injection-moulded plastic packaging for customers operating in the food & drink and confectionery markets.

Recent innovations include stereolithographic models for product trials and photo-realistic in-mould labelling.

Robinson Paperboard Packaging (Chesterfield, UK)

The paperboard division manufactures rigid paperboard packaging solutions used for food and confectionery, toiletries and cosmetics and presentation packs. The paperboard division has a more diverse customer base than plastics and competition in this area is strong for long run, high volume processes. Robinson targets shorter run prestige projects and jobbing work and recent innovations include the revolutionary Cool-Air tube that can keep products chilled for many hours after purchase.

Robinson Paperboard Packaging (Toronto, North America)

The North American paperboard division was established by acquisition in 1998 and 2000.  Whilst based in Canada, some 90 percent of sales occur in the US. The North American division is strong in the toiletries and cosmetics sectors and is currently highly concentrated on a few key customers. There are growth opportunities by diversification in other sectors where the UK is strong, by increasing sales presence and by acquisition.

Robinson Plastic Packaging (Lodz, Poland)

The recent acquisition of a 12,000 m2 manufacturing plant in Poland (Lodz) heralds the expansion of Robinson Plastic Packaging into Central Europe. This provides a lower cost base facility convenient for many of our blue chip customers that are relocating to the region. Manufacturing commenced in March 2006.

Robinson Plastic Packaging (Stanton Hill, UK)

Acquired in May 2006 from VR Plastics, this business manufactures high quality custom injected moulded plastic packaging products to major international branded goods companies in the toiletries and cosmetics sector. It operates from a 4,000 m2 manufacturing plant in Stanton Hill.

Property

Historically, Robinson has enjoyed extensive land ownership in Chesterfield that now provides considerable potential for future development. The Company also holds options to buy land in and around existing locations that should enhance development opportunities. The property base also provides a reliable cash and earnings stream to support the trading businesses.
